Course Content : Safety Management

The person who succeeds the exam can act as guarantor in Safety Management for all construction works of all subcategories of license.

The Safety Management exam covers the following subjects:

• Prevention management;
• Management of compensation cases;
• Management of contributions;
• Legislation and regulation.

By Safety management on construction sites is understood:

• Prevention management: See for the training of workers;
• Have Knowledge of legislation and regulations framing the prevention and the security;
• Investigate incidents ; By able to identify risks;
• Delimit and supervise the construction sites;
• Have knowledge of CNESST, its rules and procedures.

The training for the Construction Site Safety Management (GSC) qualification provides candidates with a complete and structured understanding of the responsibilities involved in overseeing safety on construction sites across all licence subcategories. Individuals who successfully pass the exam may act as the designated safety manager, ensuring that prevention measures, regulatory requirements, and compliance obligations are properly implemented throughout all phases of construction work.

The GSC exam covers several core subjects, including prevention management, claims and indemnity file management, contribution and assessment management, and the legislative and regulatory framework governing occupational health and safety. Together, these topics form the foundation of effective safety oversight on Québec construction sites.

Construction Site Safety Management includes several key responsibilities. Candidates must understand how to implement prevention strategies, ensure that workers receive appropriate training, and apply the legislation and regulations that govern safety practices. They must also be able to investigate incidents, identify hazards, and recommend corrective measures to reduce risks. The role involves defining and securing the worksite perimeter, monitoring daily activities, and ensuring that all operations comply with established safety protocols.

A strong knowledge of the CNESST—its rules, procedures, and enforcement mechanisms—is essential. Safety managers must be able to navigate CNESST requirements, maintain proper documentation, and communicate effectively with inspectors, workers, and employers. They are responsible for ensuring that safety plans, incident reports, and prevention programs are properly maintained and updated.

Ultimately, this training equips future GSC respondents with the skills and judgment required to manage safety proactively, reduce workplace accidents, and uphold the high standards of Québec’s construction industry.
